This section of my blog will feature Artists and Makers. The purpose it to point to how God is

flowing through them to Glorify Him and encourage and support His beautiful creatives!

Let's begin and shine a light on the reflection of His Creativity through Naomi, our feature artist.

.

Meet Naomi

Naomi is a mixed media producer that focuses on collages and uses them to make notebooks and

such.

A mixed Media Piece

For her, art is an extension of her faith and has therapeutic value.

She says “I see art as therapy. God created people in His own image, and the first thing we know

about God is that He created. So, I think the need to create is a huge part of our humanness.” She has come to art in this therapeutic way after a time of tragedy. She tells us, “After my marriage fell apart, I felt the need to paint a picture of a fallen tree, with its root sticking in the air, except for a few roots that remained in the ground. The bulk of the tree was all dead except for one branch that was growing straight up, full of leaves. It is a self-portrait. God gave me strength to keep growing.”

Its clear through His continued work in her that she is continuing to grow and even more gracefully reflects His love and provision.

She has been able to speak of His love to others in special and unique ways even as a self-described introvert. Her art is often intertwined with scripture verses as good reminders of His love and provision. Her faith has been a permanent part of her life and her artistic expression is overflowing with that faith. It seems to us that she is able to seamlessly express art through faith with no division between the two. Her art is an outflow and a blessing to those who are able to see it, experience it, and receive it.

She started out using soft pastels, making landscapes and still life's, then moved on to mixed media and book making as part of her therapeutic recovery after her divorce. She continues to learn and grow by watching others at their craft through YouTube lessons and other how-to videos

See below a sample of her book making.

God's Influence

When asked how God influences her creative process, she said,

"So much of religion and faith is all about words. Words can easily be added to mixed media. I use Bible verses a lot, most of my books have Bible verses in them."

Naomi enjoys making collage papers, with a gelatin printing plate, and then making collages with them. Some of the themes she enjoys creating are trees, leaves and flowers. She loves creating art from nature.

Biggest Challenge

Her Biggest Challenge as an artist has been in selling her art.

If you are interested in connecting with Naomi or buying her art, you can find her through her blog or Etsy Store.

She has done some commission work for Friends as well.

Advice she would give to other Artists

"Just make art, have fun, it doesn’t have to be perfect."

Greatest Creative Influences in Her Life

Jane Davies, Robyn McClendon, Karen Margulis, Linda Germain, to name a few.

Final words from Naomi

"I see art as therapy. God created people in His own image, and the first thing we know about God is that he created. So I think the need to create is a huge part of our humanness."
