“Setting Goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible .”

Tony Robbins

No matter where you want to go or what you want to do in life, setting goals will help you get there. Goal setting does not have to be an ”arduous process". There are many approaches to Goal setting and tools to use. This article will cover a few tools I have found helpful and am using in my own life. My hope is you will find something helpful and inspiring to jumpstart you into setting some amazing goals in your life.

I worked in the medical field for 30 years and was taught goal setting with patients. We used a system which helped identify the issue, documented objective and subjective information and developed a plan. It was imperative to set a direction and plan. Just like driving, we get in the car and have a plan of where we want to go. We need to consider if we need gas, the direction of our course and how long it will take. Without knowing these details, we might drive around in circles.

Recently, I have been purposing to learn more creative endeavors and purpose to get organized with them as well as, in my home and life in general. I tend to be what is termed "A random, Abstract Person". Basically, I am not too organized and I tend to drift randomly which makes it difficult to get things done. I learned this about myself in a book called The Way they Learn by Cynthia Tobias. I tend to be a big picture person and a global thinker. It is a challenge for me to get details down and I can get overwhelmed by that big picture view of projects.

Goal setting is a great way to break projects down into small reachable steps.

Learning something new is a process. Having steps to facilitate learning is a good way to direct your path.

Creative Tools

Michael’s Craft Store has been offering on-line Classes which is a wonderful way to learn many new creative things at the convenience of home. The classes are free. The only requirement is to sign up and have an electronic device to view the classes.

Recently, I attended one of their classes on Setting and Tracking your Intentions for 2021 Using your Happy Planner. After taking the class, I went out and purchased the Journal designed for Planning Creative Projects.

Features of Planner

I am purposing to use my planner for creative projects and other appointments and activities in my life. The prime focus will be goal setting for learning new creative endeavors.

The planner has different sections: How to Use your Project Planner, Project Ideas, Year Overview, Year timeline, Project Planning Sheets, Monthly and Weekly Planner and stickers for planning, word stickers and encouraging picture stickers.

Planners

Michael's offers several different topics for journals, just to name a few: Recipes, Fitness/Health, Home Organization, Budgeting, Menu Planning and Personal Journaling to name a few. Michael's was having a sale when I bought my planner. It regularly sold for $29.99 and I was able to purchase it for $11.99. (Planners at Michaels).

There are many ways to plan and free planners on the web. I would recommend finding one which fits you and your budget. You can purchase a planner or even make your own. Allow your own creativity to flow. I personally wanted a product already made for me. I would rather put brain power and my energy into other creative endeavors.

Sticker Books

In addition, I bought two sticker books by The Happy Planner brand at Michael's. Live Creatively and Brights Couleurs Vives. The Happy Planner Sticker Book. There are three pages of different sticker books on Michael's website. They range from encouragement, nurses, glitters, flowers, quotes, Disney and more. It sells for $19.99, I was able to purchase mine on sale for $13.99. My husband is a teacher, which afforded me to receive another 15% off our order total. He and I shop together, so he is like having a "live" coupon!

Creative Writing Utensils

Writing tools for your planner adds more expression and creativity to the pages. I chose Tombow Dual Brush Pens Primary Palette at Michael's. I am in the process of learning Brush Lettering and already had these pens. I did purchase them for half price last year. They retail for $26.99. The pens are self-cleaning, have a brush end and fine point. They are water based and you can use them for blending. They add color and creativity to my written words!

Using Creative Tools

You might be wondering why all this? The answer is, Goal setting can feel dry and uninteresting, by using creative tools for goal setting, can make it fun and interesting to do. Another KEY reason is to encourage and inspire you. The quotes and words in your planner are like self-encouragement. They are prompts to encourage, motivate, track and help you to keep going. I am looking forward to doing my planning and using creative pieces to set and execute my goals. The planner will serve as an accountability tool as well to help me stay on track.

Encouragement and Inspiration Tools

To encourage and inspire myself, I have been listening to a Webcast on Creative Live. It is a new Creative platform to me. Right now I have chosen the free version. They offer special subscription prices if you are interested in connecting with creative resources and community. I listened to the Webcast called Creative Calling by Chase Jarvis. He is a professional photographer, founder of Creative Live and teaches how to unleash your creativity, transform lives, and add value to everything we do in his new book Creative Calling. Creative Calling is a live webcast with six weeks of broadcasts. This particular platform is motivating and is inclusive in building community.
